NBA Playoff Preview: The Real Sweet 16
March 30th, 2011If the NBA playoffs began today, would any Richmond Spiders or Virginia Commonwealth Rams qualify?
You bet. They go by the name of the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. Their records are 35-36 and 32-40, respectively. A hefty margin worse than Richmond and VCU (29-7 and 26-11).

Thuuz Alerts: Earlier, Faster, Better!
March 24th, 2011You spoke up and we listened!
You told us that our alerts were not being delivered fast enough. We admit it! We were being too cautious.
Beginning today, we've made significant changes to our alert service so that exciting game alerts get sent out much more rapidly. You'll notice a difference and we're confident that you'll be impressed with the results.
If, after these changes, you want even more or even earlier alerts, you should Set Your Alert Preferences to a lower minimum excitement rating. The default setting is 90 out of 100 for most of you. Try 85 or 80. You'll quickly find a balance that works for you.
So, keep the feedback coming! We're listening and making moves.
Enjoy the excitement!

Barcelona Express
March 19th, 2011I read that Pep Guardiola said that although Jack Wilshere is an excellent player he would not qualify to play for Barcelona's first team. Here are my questions for Mr. G:
So? Who's arguing?

Thuuz NBA Mid-Season Report: Top Teams
March 7th, 2011Turning our attention to the Team Excitement Rankings through the All-Star Break, it is very interesting to note that nine of the top ten teams ranked by excitement hail from the Western Conference. This is certainly no indictment of the style or caliber of play in the Eastern Conference, but it does reflect the relative parity of the teams in the Western Conference compared to the Eastern Conference. Case in point: if one compares each team's record of "Points For" (PF) and "Points Against" (PA), one will quickly note that the most exciting teams show a close relationship between PF and PA, signifying a trend for a team's involvement in close games.

English Premier League Tightens Up
March 5th, 2011This whole Premiere League thing is kind of fun, isn't it? With about a quarter of the season left to be played it's all tightened up rather nicely thanks to Chelsea's win over Manchester United this week. No matter who you were rooting for, no matter what you thought of the ref or of the way the game played out if you're a true EPL fan you surely agree that the result of that game makes for a much more entertaining final quarter of the season. The tighter the top of the standings the better, right?

NBA Trade Frenzy: Who, What and Why?
March 4th, 2011Me oh my. Is your heart still racing? Brain still processing?
In the NFL, player for player trades are rarer than productive labor negotiation. The last in recent history was the Clinton Portis - Champ Bailey swap. That was 2004.
Seven years have passed without so much as a peep from the NFL. The NBA, on the other hand, seems to have packed seven years worth of trades into one trade deadline.

Thuuz NBA Mid-Season Report: Top Players
March 3rd, 2011Thuuz is proud to announce its first look into the world of individual player excitement and impact.
Player Excitement measures the proven ability of an individual player to change the excitement level of a game, normalized on a per-game basis. For the first half of the season, Deron Williams (Utah Jazz) came out on top as having the greatest influence on game excitement with a rating of 91. To put this into perspective, the average starting player has an excitement rating of 45. This influence is felt over the course of a game through the player's ability to create impact at pivotal moments, either pulling his team back into a game that was getting away or further separating his team from an opponent that is making a run. It also measures the player's influence on pushing the tempo of a game, as well as their raw creativity on the court.
